Treadmills: A Source Of Tragic Injuries For Children

Between 2006 and 2007, about 5,500 children under the age of 5 were treated in emergency rooms for injuries from treadmills. Although most youngsters only suffered from minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises, some cases were much more serious, as was the recent tragic incident involving boxer Mike Tyson’s daughter. Cords hanging from the console are what most often harm children injured in treadmill mishaps. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), treadmills pose greater safety threats than any other type of exercise equipment.
